Mrs Eynsford Hill: Clara! Clara: Ha! Ha! Thus, Shaw is simply stating to us that there are many people who are trapped in their class, and cannot be themselves. People like Mr. Doolittle are trapped in their middle class, and even though he has the qualities of being a member of the upper class, he cannot change as he does not have the support. However, Shaw is also expressing to us that people like Eliza can be taught to be artificial and adjust to the aristocracy. He is suggesting that there is no such thing as being trapped in a social class, as long as you have the support to become artificial. Shaw's ideas of the role of women in a patriarchy society ...
