Her son then impregnates the chambermaid (the one which Lindo says is of imperial blood because of "her dream".) Themes: Generation Gap: In Lindo's speech to her daughter, she tells her this story that must seem so strange to her daughter, as her marriage was not arranged in any way. Loyalty: To her parents: her parents' wish is that she will remain with her new family, she honours this. To her husband: she tries hard to become pregnant and offers herself to her husband who does not accept, but still blames the lack of a baby on her. 2 Characters: Lindo: Strong-willed, loyal. She honours her parents' wishes, and is cunning enough to get out of her failing ...
