For example, if there was one product they bought which as sharp edges or not packaged properly then Tesco are liable to any damaged caused by the product to the consumers. Another example could be that clothing Tesco sells has pins sticking out and it catches the customer and hurts them, then this is in a way breaching the law. So if Tesco were found guilty of doing these then they will be sued/fined so again they will get bad publicity or even have some stores shut down in severe circumstances. The consumer protection is to help safeguard the consumer from products that do not reach reasonable level of safety.
