On the side of the Allied Powers, it was a fair treatment because all the Powers except the USA were rather selfish and aimed at getting more national interests. For example, France demanded harsh punishments for Germany; Britain wanted to destroy the German navy and seize her colonies; Italy wanted to get more territories and Japan wanted to consolidate her gains in China. As a result, the Treaty of Versailles gave opportunities for the Powers to achieve their aims. However, on the view point of the defeated countries and China, Italy and Russia, it was unfair. According to the treaty, Germany was declared guilty of having provoked the war. Secondly, Alsace-Lorraine????•?? was returned to France.
