... was because girls' schools were set up and organisations that run them, like Girls Day School Trust (GDST) formed in 1872, were aiming to give girls an equal education to boys. Also in 1848 the first women were allowed to go to London University but it was a while before other Universities did the same. Because of all this, women became more educated so more open minded and independent. Women started to get more responsible and respectable jobs. Their career opportunities had been broadening since 1859 when the Society for Promoting the Employment of Women was set up which allowed women to become doctors and do other jobs, which had previously only been open to men.
