It consisted of the transporting of children from major cities to safe areas in the country side of Britain. These major cities were no longer considered safe for British children. During the first world war, Britain's success was largely due to it's navy. A strong navy was essential as air technology was not advanced enough to make any threat to Britain so by sea was the only way Britain was vulnerable to attack. However, by the second world war this had changed. Since the German government surrendered in November 1918, they had been determined to improve and ever since, they constantly uncovered new methods of offence, the most successful of these being 'blitzkrieg,' translating into lightning war.
