John Steinbeck, born in 1902, grew up during the Depression near Salinas Valley wrote many fiction books based on his background and experiences during that time and area of the country. In Of Mice and Men he writes a story of 2 unemployed young men at the same period of time and describes their way of life just like Steinbeck is experiencing at the same time which makes the novel more realistic. Steinbeck shows us that the experience and culture of the migrant workers by the way they live and act in their daily lives. The lives of the migrant workers are presented as hopeless, and depressing, at those times they are poor and are in need for jobs to get money, and the only way to live was with their fellow workers in their work place, and in these houses where they live ...
