The yards in which the houses are built in are dark, dirty and very unhealthy places to live in. All the garbage is thrown in to the yard and streets from windows and doors. The cellars in which the poor people live in are worse. "We live in a cellar in Liverpool. There are 5 of us in one room, my mother and I in one corner and in the other, three sailors. In both corners we have a straw bed on the ground. The cellar floor is always wet with at least two inches of water. Some people even have to share their cellars with animals."
