It is bizarre and disturbing because family is supposed to be the most loving and caring community a person can belong to and to see this situation where one member is essentially being bullied contradicts that harmony. As with the painting John and Rachael are a potentially loving relationship gone horribly wrong. With these similarities the two texts also differ.
