In this time the boys would live their lives in these barracks with boys the same age until they had successfully completed their entire education. Whilst they were in the system they would be under the supervision of a public guardian, called a paidonomos. A Spartan citizen of high status would fulfill this job. This guardian would be helped by group of teens that were about 19 or 20 years old. This is similar to teens that either become teacher assistants after sixth form or those who go on a gap year to help children in other countries.
