Magnification is the number of times larger an image is then the actual specimen. Resolution is the degree of detail, which can be seen. Shorter wavelengths give the best resolution. In general it can be said that the greater the magnification the grater the resolution. Early Microscopists saw quite distorted images due to the low quality of the glasses and imperfect shape of their lenses.
