... Brittany. We learn his loyalty and righteousness to the king of Brittany in the beginning of the story: "In Brittany there was once a knight called Eliduc. He was a model of his type, one of the bravest men in the country" (Pg 123) Eliduc never glorified his accomplishments to any of his fellow subjects. He manages to exhibit self discipline and courage through word and deed. Possessed with such fine individuality and morality, the king of Brittany favored Eliduc and rewards him with privileges that no other subjects in the court could obtain. The privileges that were given to Eliduc were portrayed by the narrator in the introduction: "Eliduc served him faithfully -- whenever the king had to go abroad, Eliduc was left in charge of his territories, and kept them safe by his military skills. He got many favors in return. He was allowed to hunt in the royal forests. ...
