It does not judge and it doesn't glorify. It simply describes. "Trainspotting" was first published in 1993, but it was the making of the film in 1996 that really set speed to its popularity. This was the Scottish author, Irvine Welsh's debut novel. He has also written a second novel, "Marabou Stork Nightmares", and some short stories. He seems to know a lot about what he's talking about, because everything is described in detail and his characters are very believable even when you don't want to believe in them. Welsh explores modern society's attitudes and doesn't hold back in expressing any views about the cultural problems that face the youth of Britain today.
